History
A gaming clan can be defined as:
“…a group of players who regularly play together in a particular (or various different) multiplayer games. These communities can range from groups of a few friends to 100-person organizations, with a broad range of structures, goals, and members.”
Members of the clans FSF, KTA, and Ifrit, left their groups and came together to form a new online gaming community. These members were:
Core Bob Scoobles Atomic Guppy
Latigo FatKidsJiggle Pwndy Mage
Sparticus Donthitme Dullo Savage Sinner
KG Fuse Tekmonkie The Flying Dutchman
Balz 3quality The Way Fiasco
With the desire to begin anew, this group first had to come up with a name. Core, Fuse, and Donthitme (DHM) were tasked with this duty and began brainstorming for ideas. The process went a little like this:
“Fuse, DHM and I [Core] were simply trying to find a name for the group/clan we were about to gather and form. We tried all different things. We tried first finding out what tags we wanted and liked then tried to match a name with it. That didn’t go well. So we started doing it the normal way and just find a name for it like most people do. We must have gone through about 10 different names. We knew we wanted the word Intoxicated or Drunk in the name. So we at least had a start. Eventually I did, in fact, come up with Strapped Intoxicated Gamers. Fuse and DHM both agreed and said they loved it.”
So, as told by one of the founding members of this clan, the name and tag chosen to represent this group of elite online gamers was Strapped Intoxicated Gamerz, or more commonly known as, SIG. Formally introduced worldwide to the online gaming community in September of 2006, SIG has promoted itself both through in-game performance and also the custom maps created by some its highly skilled members.
Many, if not all, of the original members have competed in competitive gaming leagues such as the Cyberathlete Amateur League and TeamWarfare League. Because of their high level of commitment and vast experience levels, they have led their own teams into competition encouraging and teaching lesser experienced individuals a more professional style of gaming
One of the many goals of SIG is to promote online game play and to push its’ members to perform at a higher level. SIG promotes such action by organizing scrimmages (scrims) with other clans or have “Ten Man” scrims. A Ten Man is like a pickup game of basketball. Ten people gather inside a server, team captains are chose, teams are picked, and the scrim begins. These are both fun, allowing members to interact with each other and those of other friendly clans, and serious, encouraging more competitive play. Members looking to further improve their skills are encouraged to join the Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL) or the TeamWarfare League (TWL).
