Progress....

We've had many messages from enthusiastic members who've been waiting patiently for our next update (thanks for bearing with us guys, please know that we're just as eager to get this stuff done!)

As I'd mentioned in our last post, we've been working on a major upgrade to the site which has caused many more delays than we could have ever anticipated. This update has actually led us to re-writing a signifcant amount of code (many thousands of lines in fact).

In particular, we've been re-building the table display code for the entire site and it's been a long and painful journey... as our beloved Demonic One so aptly put it: "it's like ripping out the engine of a car, completely rebuilding it from scratch and dropping it back in."

Anyway - there are some benefits to this...

Scalability - The performance of the site is going to be much more efficient (really needed as the membership just seems to grow and grow).

Error handling - this has been hugely improved. We will be able to detect and fix display errors much faster than before.

Anyone who has spent time coding will be fully aware of the delays and challenges that developers face on a project/ site of this depth. Luckily, we can see a light at the end of the tunnel and as we continue to work flat out - we are very close indeed to the final stage, where we will be implementing a whole host of graphical updates (the design for this has been complete for a while) as well as the new FBG Supporters model (huzzah!)

Even after this update is live, complete with new features and functionality, we still have a lot of work that will need to be completed for the Battles Upgrade. This has been kept mostly top secret but when we upload the new release we'll include some screenshots and details and then you're going to better understand why you need to keep hold of those Plinks! All will be revealed soon.

The quiet before the storm

You may have noticed that we have not had a news post in a little while...

We estimate that we are about a week away from a major update which includes some big front-end design updates, some brand new features and a tonne of back-end changes which will (unfortunately) go mostly unnoticed by the masses except for the fact that pages will be loading a lot faster.

Competition Winners!

We received a number of submissions for this competition with numerous entrants offering slightly modified versions of clearly copyrighted work (sorry guys - the work has to be completely your own). but it was FtheBR4IN that really blew us away with 2 entries that earned both the 1st and 2nd place with ease.

FIRST PRIZE

175,000 Plink Competition

Posted by: D1gN1tY at 9/12/2008 2:58 PM in News & Updates
Ok guys, we're getting close to another big release update soon along with some exciting new announcements. In the meantime, we're going to run a little 'FBG Profile' competition for 175,000 Plinks.

Over the last six months, various members of FBG have approached us with us an interest to contribute various designs to our Profile images. So, we've decided to setup a competition! Yes, now is your chance to get your l337 design skills recognised by many thousands of FBG members and maybe even earn a nice stash of Plinks while you're at it.
Ok - we've received a lot of Private Messages and Chat Requests tonight concerning the Battle today/ this evening (understandably) - as the Clans involved did not get the usual 2nd (and final) battle Window.

Unfortunately, we've not been able to make the necessary amendments to the Battle window immediately as we have all (including techs) been off-site at a meeting, discussing our latest development plans for FBG (it's very exciting).
A new build today with some minor bug fixes and changes.

Server admins may be pleased to know of a new function which allows you to temporarily disable FBG stats collection for a round or a whole map. This can be triggered by using the two new !fadmin commands, or via script and changing a cvar. Having this functionality allows you to have "fun" rounds without impact towards people's profiles.

WoC have managed to break NiF’s unstoppable winning streak- principally because NiF didn’t actually compete in this battle! Arguably, SF also had a hand in this matter, having gone “all in” in Battle 9, NiF were forced to follow suit; resulting in rumours of bankruptcy. Nevertheless, WoC managed to beat the best of the rest to take home the crown for Battle 10. With a staggering 140,000 troops at their disposal, WoC faced betrayal from allies TGG (who apparently decided that it is probably best to remain friends with the biggest boy in the schoolyard), the machinations of a devious DJR (who arranged for eGO’s failed coup) and LW’s desperate gamble with only a few minutes left. WoC has amassed quite the collection of heads at this stage, inflicting severe losses (>50,000 troops) on DJR. Congratulations guys, I hope you give NiF a run for their money next battle!

VIA have managed to survive a rather disastrous turn of events. After slowly and surely building up a modest portfolio of territories and wearing LW down, VIA were hit badly. “Shooting yourself in the foot” might be the best way to describe what happened, after waging a long and successful campaign against LW, VIA realised too late that LW provided a very convenient buffer between them and SAS. Once that buffer was gone, SAS troops flooded south, forcing VIA to sneakily move into Alaska unbeknownst to most. To be fair to VIA, this battle saw an unprecedented commitment to their allies- supporting TAR till the very end (with rumours of financial support abound), and consistently furthering WoC’s agenda. Perhaps there are laying the foundations for rock solid alliances in preparation for Battle 11..

By the end of the Battle, eGO were still hanging in there. Left with only 12 territories after following the “advice” of a certain rascal from DJR, eGO’s cunning feint designed to look like eGO were after TGG and XTRM, it soon became clear that WoC were the real target. In a rather uncoordinated fashion, DJR and eGO both proceeded to try lay the smackdown on WoC- with disastrous results! Better luck next time guys!

XTRM were pushed to the furthest reaches of TGG’s empire, with a divided army and low morale. Thankfully, they managed to weather the storm and have outperformed established clans like TAR, iK and VR.

I knew in my hearts of hearts that no matter how much I wished for an epic invasion by VR, that it was just not going to happen, despite their excellent track record in America. Looking for some easy points, VR seemed pretty content to just sit back in Greenland and let the storm rage all around them.

"Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without." -Confucius
Undoubtedly, one of the biggest stars of last night aside from TGG's controversial mutiny, was SAS with hordes of their troops rushing into Mexico, raping everything they saw in their path. After having lost over 70% of their lands, VIA gave the WoC troops the "go" mark to get what had remained in the southern parts of the Middle America to stop SAS from slipping into #1 position. There were 2 mistakes that prevented SAS from winning it. The first one was SAS leader's pointless suicidal attacks of the Northern territory troops, which could've prevented the TGG attacks to cut deep into the heart of their lands and the second one was the failure to resupply the southern territories with more troops. Our Elite ninja squads were sent to investigate the case in more detail. The last transmission we picked up from them before receiving their dead bodies(with their sexual organs missing), was a disturbing view in Mexico City where the mercenary commander had chained his client, and abusing him in the most sadistic ways imaginable while yelling a quote from the greatest strategist the face of the earth has ever seen, Sun Tzu: "Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?"
They certainly did do a lot of damage towards the end of the battle, where they took their allies LW, completely out. LW who had fought tooth and nails for their lands during every battle windows were perhaps a bit surprised. This could certainly affect their future relationship whether it be intimate or professional.

Continuing on with today's main celebrity, Sun Tzu with one of his most famous quotes: "All warfare is based on deception."
Now that's a good lesson for DJR to learn as in some opinions they were screwed and in some others they were completely outwitted. One could fail but to think that DJR who got to taste the bitterness of mutiny will seek nothing but vengeance. Their carefully laid plans to attack WoC disappeared into thin air with TGG's cunning move. With my Elite Ninja's gone and Winged Llama riding squad on another assignment, I had to personally wear my dusty mask and interview Dougle who had fled into the abandoned facilities of Shadow Moses islands(refer. Metal Gear Solid) in Alaska. With an emotional expression he said: "I don't have time to think about my rivalry with DoG anymore as I have TgG and RoF right now."

On a side note: We are currently recruiting death defying, fearless ninjas.
Firstly, I’d like to welcome my co-writer, Mr [insert name here]. Destined to take up the pen from a young age, Mr [insert name here] is prepared to weather the storm and seek out the truth behind the diplomatic façade of FBG’s clans. Prepared to face the horrors of the furthest and darkest corners of the FBG battlefield, Mr [insert name here] will be contributing on a regular basis.

Glory for NiF (again!)

NiF’s grip slipping?

For those of you who do not frequent our cheerful forums overseen by the despotic Rave, there was a little discussion about NiF’s dominance in the last few battles. Clearly my comments on political inaction stirred something deep within SF’s soul. As cunning as ever, SF led the sheep down a false path, releasing a statement as follows:

I'm gonna sticky this for the benefit of new clannies, and anyone else who just didn't know.

Michemoche has arranged a 24 slot server with FBG enabled (Thanks Miche!!), so you can earn plinks on your own turf, so to speak. It's at 213.185.18.169:27015, so stick it in your Favourites. It's worth mentioning, that under FBG rules you need six players in game before your FBG scores count.

If you read this then you're probably asking what the hell are they doing, why am I demoted. Don't worry, the clan will be rearranged a little bit, very likely almost everyone will return to their original rank.
More info will come soon. You can PM me also for more details and tips.
